Fourth Graders have been studying the Regions of Virginia in class. During Library and Computer Lab they are researching the regions and typing their notes in Microsoft Word, creating a pic collage of a region, and making a map in Pixie to label the regions.
Third graders spent their time in library and computer lab researching aspects of Ancient Greece including- food, clothing, daily life, contributions/artifacts and architecture. Students read information on websites and took notes on a graphic organizer (example below). Next week, students will use their notes to record a video in front of the Green Screen! Their video will explain what they have learned about Ancient Greece and allow them to appear as if they are actually reporting from on site! Please ask permission before using either document. We introduced our fifth graders to Google Classroom for the first time this year and they seemed to love it! My hope is that they can learn how to use google docs and then we can begin to use the collaborative aspect of the google drive apps. Their first assignment in the Google Classroom was to research facts about some of the major battles of the Civil War and type the facts that they found in the graphic organizer. They will then use these facts to create a digital timeline of the major battles. First, our students logged in with the credentials and then opened the google doc graphic organizer. Then they opened the assignment sheet/rubric to find links to helpful websites that they could use for their research. When the student completes the graphic organizer, they have the option to click "turn in," and then I will be able to grade their work and share the work with their Social Studies teacher. This assignment provides them with much needed practice, typing, manipulating tabs and finding information on the web, and using google docs/classroom with hopefully they will use a lot more in middle school! Below, you will find the assignment sheet that I created and photos of the project. Please ask for permission before using the assignment sheet as your own, as I created that myself. |
